Mark Making

We have a large portfolio of handcrafted mark-making in the Mercer & Dare collection, particularly monochromatic black and white but also some incorporating neutrals and indigo. They add texture, flair and liveliness to rooms and a sense of scale particularly if you go big in size as a statement piece.
Sticking to all, or mainly monochrome prints for styling a gallery wall can be very effective as it brings focus to the variations in scale, texture, brush mark and technique of the pieces. We find the black and white works are so versatile and can always a new place that works for them.
We love experimenting with different brushes, mediums and papers and usually set aside a week when we are developing new works to get the music on, all the materials out and explore new techniques which we may then use for collage or work on further digitally.

The perfect shade of ‘griege’, Slate V from Paint & Paper Library is a favourite warm-grey colour of ours for interior walls and to use in our handprinted artwork. It has the slightest green tone in some lights which we love and no lilac tone which you often get with greys.

We LOVE seeing our prints professionally framed to suit different interiors; it is an artwork in itself. For this Colour Pop (green and red) we had it float-mounted and chose a tulip box frame, in Ash for a natural look. The shadow echos the shadow on the piece.

It’s a running joke that when we start working on a new collection and are looking for inspiration, it’s never long before the stickers, tapes and papers are pulled out and we get stuck into some collage.
